Notes
- Samuel Crisswell was the son of Thomas & Mary Crisswell, born 1847 in
Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire.
His older brother William also moved into Newmarket and opened a drapers store in Camden House - No.69-73 High Street.
He first appears on the census in Newmarket in 1871, in Waterloo House, Wellington Street - the actual location for his shop is given on the 1865-1882 map for Newmarket (not shown here). In the trade directories it states that he also lived in Meldreth House, which is the large house further along on the same side of Wellington Street next to the New Cut.
The last census Samuel is shown on in Wellington Street is 1891 and in the 1901 Eastern Counties Directory Crisswell Supply Stores is shown in Wellington Street occupied by George A. Sage.
At some time Samuel moved to Chesterton Road in Cambridge, where he died on 15th April 1927.
