  • This shop was built in the garden of the Chestnuts (No.16 High Street), which was originally owned by Veterinary Surgeon Edward Hugh Leach at the beginning of the 20th c.

  • Many thanks to Denise Rogerson for the details from 1964 ... it's interesting to see that the building was split into two shops at that time - you can see the shape of these from the present-day photo below - where the Chestnut snack bar would have been in the two window section on the right and, curiously, the Trustee Savings Bank would have been in the three window section on the left [note from webmaster - I had no idea about that].
